Sundays are usually for relaxing at home before you start your work week, However this Sunday in Reading, PA there not relaxing. Tonight at the Reverb the Wisconsin Death Trip 20th anniversary tour makes its stop. This tour features openers DevilDriver, DOPE, Wednesday 13 and Raven Black.
Tonight is a trip of nostalgia, I wasn't sure what to expect but the one thing that I knew was that the rock world was still grieving from the tragic loss of charismatic front man Wayne Static on November 1st, 2014. People remembered Wayne for his larger than life personality and insane stage antics which fans loved.
The night started off with Raven Black I have seen them before with Cradle of Filth back in March. Their stage show is fantastic, with lots of props like hula hoops, giant teddy bears, and a lot more. Their music can probably best be described as creepy horror metal. They have such a fun stage show and Raven is tiny but fierce!
The Duke of Spook was next up, I am a huge Wednesday 13 fan. His stage presence is out of this world. He uses props but not to the point where it's distracting. He is best described has Horror Punk and he is the best at what he does. Going even back to his days in the Murderdolls, Wednesday always kills it. He has a new album set to drop in the fall called "NECROPHAZE" and I personally can not wait. His stage show is a must see!
DOPE is the next band up, hailing from New York they found a lot of success in the early 2000s with hits such as "Die MF Die" and their cover of "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)". The band has taken their elements of industrial-esque, nu metal
and kept its signature; but bringing a harder and dirtier edge substantial sound into 2017.
Their live show displays a ton of energy, great interaction with the crowd and is visually fun to watch. If they are coming to a town near you it’s a definite show to check out!
(P.S. I also had a crowd surfer take me out during their set while I was in the photo pit, that was a personal highlight of the night for myself.
One of the big highlights of the night, DevilDriver, who I had never seen before put on such a killer show. Dez Fafara on vocals led his band through a heavy dose of groove laden metal keeping the fans engaged as he rocked out "Grinfucked".
The set included originals like "Clouds Over California" , "End of The Line" and "I Could Care Less". They also rocked a cover of "SAIL" originally done by AWOLNATION.
Their set was killer and they had the crowd losing their minds.
When Static came on, it was insane. It was like a zombie Wayne came onto stage. The antics and hair were creepishly similar. They’re crazy live and they sounded so tight from a music standpoint.
Xero did such an impeccable job by being a combination of a tribute to Wayne Static while having his own charisma thrown in there. Based on their opener “December”, it felt like the perfect way to go on that nostalgic “Wisconsin Death Trip”.
The set was jammed with hits such as "Push it", "Bled For Days" and "I'm with Stupid".
This tour is a can't miss. So much energy from all the bands.
