How did the name come about?
We wanted a short name which was easy to remember and at the same time meant
something. PEEL has a double meaning: to peel off the layers to get into the core, into
what’s essential, and it can mean protection or shelter…
How would you describe your genre to someone who isn't familiar with your music?
PEEL is a bit of everything and I think that we are hard to label, but alt.rock is often a
genre we are linked to. We are a bit of everything from everywhere in pop/rock history.
There is an age gap
How did the band form?
The band was formed in a small town outside Oslo, Norway by Pim. The music scene was
dominated by cover-bands and metal acts. Peel grew out of the small alternative scene at
the time that consisted of punks, freaks, goth and indie-pop/rock and a bunch of hippies
and freaks. The line up has changed throughout the years and songwriter/lyricist Pim is
the only founding member left. Today Peel is: Pim, Seb and Frikk.
What are some of the artists that influence you?
So many, but to mention a few: The Beatles, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Nirvana, NiN,
IDLES, Prince,. Thin Lizzy, TheSmiths, Black Sabbath, Aha, Slipknot, Death Cab for Cutie,
David Bowie, Queen, Porcupine Tree, Mozart, Grieg and Bach.
If you could tour with any artist or band (still active or not) who would it be?
The Beatles.
What's your favorite show you've played?
We have done some pretty cool shows, but one of the last gigs we did was a festival by a
lake in the middle of a forest in Norway. It was mid August and close to midnight with
campfires, beautiful moon and stars…pure magic.
What's the future hold for the band?
The part of the future that we (to some extent) can control holds recording and releasing
new music. We would love to play more live shows, but our main market is outside of
Norway, and that makes it a bit more tricky to make it happen.
