Interview with Stone Sea

Interview with: Elvis Suhadolnik Bonesso (Singer, Guitarist and Founder of Stone Sea)

How did the name come about?

I wanted a short name that captured the flow and feel of our music. Stone Sea came after

a while and felt right. “Stone” represents fixed, unchangeable things — our core influences

and foundations — while “Sea” stands for transformation and constant movement, like

emotions and musical modulation. Together, they create an image that feels both heavy

and fluid, which fits what we do.

How would you describe your genre to someone who isn't familiar with your music?

Alternative / stoner rock with gritty grunge vibes, peppered with a hint of world music.

How did the band form?

Stone Sea started in São Paulo, Brazil, around 2009. Before moving to Ireland, I recorded

our first album, Origins. In Ireland, I found bandmates and released the EPs Vaporizer and

Mankind Maze. After further lineup changes, I recorded Ad Astra just before moving to

Spain. Now, with a new lineup based in Spain, Stone Sea is fully active again and

releasing that material. What a trip!

What are some of the artists that influence you?

I’d say Black Sabbath is the core. Then for its lyrical honesty and use of metaphors,

Nirvana. Type O Negative for its music modulations and all of that mixed with a hint of

world music, which I find adorable.

If you could tour with any artist or band (still active or not) who would it be?

Pantera, before the breakup. Touring with Dimebag alone would’ve been worth it in itself.

What's your favorite show you've played?

Our most recent gig. The band was fully locked in, and the crowd chanted some of the

songs after we finished playing. We also got to talk with people and sell some merch

afterward. I wish every show felt like that.

What's the future hold for the band?

We’re currently in touch with a few tour agencies, but nothing confirmed yet. At the same

time, we’re working on seven new songs and plan to hit the studio at some point this year.
