Jerry Cantrell brought the final leg of the Brighten tour to Huntington, NY with Thunderpussy on March 12th. Cantrell rose to fame in the 90s with his iconic band Alice in Chains. He is acclaimed as one of the best guitar players of all time. In addition to the work in Alice in Chains, he has three solo albums with the most recent being October 2021's "Brighten".
Thunderpussy kicked off the night. I have been seeing these ladies since 2018 and every time they get better. As fine wine, these ladies get better with time. The show is so energetic and powerful. They are one of the best opening acts I have ever seen, and I am looking forward to the next headlining tour.
Jerry Cantrell hit the stage opening with "Atone" off of the "Brighten" record. The thing I love so much about his solo shows is the mix of the setlist. Solo singles, hits from Chains and deep cuts. This tour had "Lesson Learned", "Between", and "Whale & Wasp" as a few of the B sides that the die hard fans enjoyed. Always playing the hits like "Man in The Box" and "Rooster", the setlist always has a great mix.
Cantrell's touring band is the tightest batch of players I have seen in recent memory. This show and tour is one of my favorite to cover, and the energy and just overall happiness you can see on Jerry and the other members' faces while playing is the most rewarding thing.
It is always a honor and privilege to cover any show the Riff Lord is on. I can't wait to see what is next for Jerry Cantrell and company!
