Dreamfire return to Westeros with acclaimed vocalist Alexa Ray for a fresh interpretation of 'The Rains Of Castamere'
DREAMFIRE RETURN TO OLD WORLDS, WITH NEW COMPANIONS...
Back in the summer of 2017 Dreamfire, the grand, ambient/neoclassical creation of reclusive artist Osirion, released an epic, immersive, instrumental reimagining of ‘The Rains Of Castamere’, a song originally written for the television adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s Game Of Thrones by composer Ramin Djawadi. The song was recorded for the Season Two soundtrack of the phenomenally successful series by The National and for the Season Four soundtrack by Sigur Ros. The Dreamfire interpretation of ‘The Rains Of Castamere’ added a breathtaking depth of melancholy and an aching atmosphere of faded majesty to the originally simple and melodic refrain, going on to accrue more than 150,000 views on the Dreamfire YouTube channel.
One person who fell under the spell of Dreamfire’s sonic exploration of the world of Game Of Thrones was Canadian vocalist and lyricist Alexa Ray. A trained opera singer, Alexa has performed across the world and received numerous awards for her singing and lyric writing. Former Lady Gaga and Lana Del Rey manager Bob Leone has hailed Alexa for her “great sense of imagery and prosody in her writing”. Having heard Osirion’s reweaving of ‘The Rains Of Castamere’ Alexa felt compelled to add her own vocal arrangement to the piece, painting yet another layer of magic onto the intricate mosaic of sound. Alexa explains how she was affected by Osirion’s work and what she hoped to bring to the music with her vocal lines...
"I really fell in love with the solo cello at the beginning of the track, as well as the deep pedals and counter harmonies that gradually build in the second half of the song. I felt the Dreamfire arrangement of 'The Rains Of Castamere' from Game of Thrones perfectly recreated the story of strength and vulnerability. I chose to sing the song in a more classical style vocal to better mimic the bow of the cello, and to further amplify the haunting beauty of this song and arrangement.”
Coaxed from his seclusion by Alexa’s passion for his work Osirion has expressed his delight at the new dimensions her vocal work has brought to his own orchestral arrangement of the ballad from Westeros, the world of Game Of Thrones...
