Interview with Julian of Shout At The Robots

Check out Emmy's conversation with Julian:

Emmy:

How did the name come about?

Julian: Heard it in a dream? Oujia board? Some obscure Terminator reference? Honestly, Chewk and I came up with it when we were dumb teenagers and the real reasoning has been lost to time.

Emmy: How would you describe your genre to someone who isn't familiar with your music?

Julian: Somewhere in the realm of post-punk. We tend to go all over the map and just tell people we're an alternative rock band, which is both vague and unhelpful! Emmy: How did the band form?

Julian: We all met at various times over the course of our childhood so we just kind of naturally bonded together as band, with a lot of stops and starts in between. This current incarnation of us formed in 2015. Emmy: What are some of the artists that influence you?

Julian: One of the big things about us is that we all have wildly different interests in music. Like, emphasis on the wildly. From IDLES and They Might Be Giants, to Public Enemy, even Phish. All four of us are pretty big music nerds and that variety in taste is a large part of what makes us us. Emmy: If you could tour with any artist or band (still active or not) who would it be?

Julian: Any of our local friends; Yard Party, If Madrid, Walking Distance, Stay Off The Fence, Second Suitor, Choose Not To Choose, Blowjam, Krooked Knuckles. The list goes on! And no, that not just a super obvious plug. I swear. Emmy: What's your favorite show you've played?

Julian: We can't choose. We love them all equally, even the ones that really didn't go so great. Emmy: What's the future hold for the band?

Julian: Hopefully extensive touring and playing shows to new people, evolving our sound and putting out an amazing second album that no one really saw coming. Stay tuned to find out.
