Interview with Zach of Dark Serenity

Dark Serenity is a Hard Rock Band out of Ann, Arbor MI.

I recently spoke with bassist Zach and you can check out our conversation below:

Emmy: How did the name come about?

Zach: Our name was created by founding member Zach Barnes (bass), based around the idea that there is light in the dark, and more specifically how there is motivation in the absoluteness of death. With limited time comes limited time to utilize it, and knowing that can empower you.

Emmy: How would you describe your genre to someone who isn't familiar with your music?

Zach: We would describe ourselves as driven, gritty rock 'n roll. Each one of us shows influence from our respective classic rock idols, but with our own modern twist.

Emmy: How did the band form?

Zach: We formed the band (Zach Barnes on bass, Kate Emrich on guitar/vocals, and Mike Bergamo on drums) in highschool. We started off by writing songs in Kate's basement, actually, and the project evolved from there.

Emmy: What are some of the artists that influence you?

Zach: We are each influenced majorly by classic rock artists, such as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. We also love modern artists Rival Sons, Highly Suspect, Royal Blood, Beware of Darkness, etc.

Emmy: If you could tour with any artist or band (still active or not) who would it be?

Zach: It'd be a blast to tour with Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown. Those guys are really making moves right now, we're big fans.

Emmy: What's your favorite show you've played?

Zach: Our favorite show was probably playing with the Iron Maidens. Nothing quite compares to the energy that that night had.

Emmy: What's the future hold for the band?

Zach: For us the future is jam-packed and very bright. We're working on our second album and planning show dates for our next tour. Be sure to follow our social media to stay updated on our whereabouts!
