Check out Emmy's interview with the vocalist of Fatality, Josh Abbott
Emmy: How did the name come about?
Josh: We’re all huge video game fans and we were all playing the legendary Mortal
Kombat one day before we had a name at all. I won a match and of course on the
screen flashed up the word “FATALITY” to which I said, “That would make a good
name for a band!” and it just stuck.
Emmy: How would you describe your genre to someone who isn't familiar with your
music? Josh: It’s hard to describe the genre without listening to all our music because I think we
make quite diverse tracks under the umbrella of Rock/Metal. If I had to describe it
then I would say something like a mixture of metal, nu-metal, heavy rock and a bit
of hip-hop thrown in.
Emmy: How did the band form? Josh: Myself, Gareth and ex drummer Chris had recently split from our old band DMR.
We decided to go in a different direction so we started off as a 3 piece. Matt was
recruited for bass duties in the summer of 2017 and when Chris made the
decision to leave in 2019 we recruited Jordan through an audition process in
November.
Emmy: What are some of the artists that influence you? Josh: There are plenty of different artists that we look up to. Some of those would be
bands like Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Slipknot, Machinehead, Fear Factory, Opeth,
As Blood Runs Black, As I Lay Dying for example. There’s just way too many
influences to list.
Emmy: If you could tour with any artist or band (still active or not) who would it be?
Josh: I think someone like Slipknot would be perfect for us to tour with (without sounding big headed). The music style is similar to some of their stuff and we like to pride ourselves on the energy that we bring. I wholeheartedly believe that we would be
a great act to warm up the crowd for them!
Emmy: What's your favorite show you've played?
Josh: Am I allowed to say all of them? No? Ok then I would have to choose our launch
party for our 2nd EP ‘Prey’. We had a great audience, friends and family were in
attendance, it was in our hometown and we managed to raise a substantial
amount for the charity MIND. It was an all round great achievement for us and the
whole lead up to it and the show itself was an amazing experience for us all.
Emmy: What's the future hold for the band?
Josh: We’re going to keep on keeping on. Things are tough in the music industry at the
moment and we have to keep working extra hard to stay relevant. We’re releasing
one new track every 6-8 weeks at the moment to give our audiences something to
look forward to and listen to and as soon as live music is back we will be relentlessly booking shows so we can bring the live music to you!
Our newest single ‘Saviour’ is going to be released on Friday 13th November 2020 and you can stream it anywhere that streaming is available.
