Mason Hill - Against the Wall album review

Mason Hill - Against the Wall March 5, 2021

7Hz Productions Check out Greg's review on Mason Hill's Against the Wall album review below.

Hailing from Glasgow, UK, Mason Hill are blowing up the charts in the UK with

their debut full length album Against the Wall, which was released March 5,

2021. The band consists of Vocalist Scott Taylor, guitarists James Bird and Marc

Montgomery, bassist Matthew Ward, and drummer Craig McFetridge.

Let’s start of by stating that Mason Hill is a band that is a force to be reckoned

with. They combine heavy, yet melodic melodies with a powerful rhythm section,

blazing guitar solos, and clean, crisp vocals. Each song on Against the Wall

provides the ever-important hook that instantly grabs your attention.

The album kicks off with the subtle intro, Reborn, and drives directly into the

rifftastic No Regret. This track packs a serious punch. This song literally has

everything from a killer riff and a blazing solo, as well as a groove laden bass line,

bone crushing drums, a killer melody, and some insanely powerful vocals.

Against the Wall follows with pretty chill verses but the choruses and bridge kick

the song into overdrive. Again, the guys combine everything that is needed to

make a hit song.

Broken Son is a beautifully arranged track. This song is catchy as hell. It has the

perfect combination of melody and a steady rhythm.

For the style of Mason Hill, DNA is so heavy. The guitars are blazing throughout

the entire song. The bass has a serious groove. The drums are bone crushing. The

vocals are absolutely powerful. That riff though!!!

More riffs and a serious groove. Find My Way is another heavy track. It hits you

right in the chest and will have you banging your head. On top of the annihilating

riffs and power of the rhythm, the vocals on this track are in your face.

Hold On starts off pretty chill and then boom!!! Another killer riff. This song is so

tight. More grooves. More solos. More hooks. Powerful vocals. What else can you

ask for?

Out Of Reach is a mid-tempo track. Kinda ballad-esque. Kinda rockin’. Then the

solo grabs you by the throat and is followed by a hooky bridge. I really can’t praise

these guys enough.

Just when you think it’s gonna be a slow song, you get another riff backed up with

killer groove. I can not stress enough how tight this band is musically. We Pray

that Mason Hill sticks around for a really long time. See what I did there?

Oh, here’s the true ballad. Where I Belong is an absolutely beautiful song. The

vocals truly shine on this song. I thought it was gonna get heavy for just a second.

One power chord. Then the perfect solo for a slow song. I can just picture the

lighters in the air at a Mason Hill show when this song is played live. I’m a sucker

for a killer ballad and I absolutely love this song.

Closing out the album is Reborn-Reprise. The albums ends exactly how it started.

Killer from start to finish. Pick this album up, download it, stream it. However you

listen to music, do the right thing and check it out. You won’t be disappointed. If

Mason Hill doesn’t take over rock radio around the world and sell out thousands

of shows in the future, I will be totally shocked. This is one of the best “rock”

albums that I have heard in a really long time.
