Steve Tobin interview

Emmy had a chat with Steve Tobin, the frontman and founder of the band Fatal Switch.

Emmy: How did the name come about? Steve: The name was born out of a concept of duality. I wanted a versatile statement that wouldmake the reader question its meaning. When something seems to present itself as onething on the surface but has a hidden meaning or a reverse truth to it that is what I call a Fatal Switch.

Emmy: How would you describe your genre to someone who isn't familiar with your music? Steve: Heavy groove driven rap metal rock injected with thought provoking storytelling. Emmy: How did the band form?

Steve: This question is always an interesting one to answer. So we actually only officially formed after the first record was already recorded. Going into the studio I found myself with only my bassist and I. We decided to proceed with putting the album together with the help of session musicians and once I had the album in hand I used it as a calling card to acquire the official members. It was never how I intended for the album to be written but I am very grateful for how things have turned out. I have the most amazing band members I could have ever hoped for. Emmy: What are some of the artists that influence you? Steve: That is an endless list. So many artists have shaped who I am. From Green Day, Nirvana, Metallica, Our Lady Peace to Eminem, A Tribe Called Quest, Busta Rhymes, Megadeth, Anthrax, Iron Maiden, Tool, In Flames, Korn, Crazy Town X and on and on.

Emmy: If you could tour with any artist or band (still active or not) who would it be? Steve: We rocked a show with Crazy Town X last November. I think it would dope if we did a full tour with them once the live industry gets back on its feet with the rest of the world.

Emmy: What's your favorite show you've played? Steve: That would have our showcase we played at Indie Week. The house tech was amazing , the sound was on point and we killed every aspect of the set. Got the crowd jumping, moving and moshing (with me in the middle) lol.

Emmy: What's the future hold for the band? Steve: We are working hard on writing new material so that we can drop some fresh tracks in 2021. Our sound has evolved into something that has taken even myself by surprise. We really can't wait to share this with our current fans and soon to be new ones. In the meantime we will continue to work the first record and get the word of Fatal Switch out to as many people as possible.
